I recently shared a poll asking if my followers wa I recently shared a poll asking if my followers wanted to know how they, as consumers, can still support wine farms during extended Level 3's alcohol ban. โŽ

The majority who voted said yes - and while I think we all know the safest place to be right now is still home, if you go out - consider supporting a wine farm.

Moving over to fairest Franschhoek, we have the lovely Rickety Bridge. I first visited this wine farm a few years back as part of the Wine Tram and loved our tasting experience here. ๐Ÿท
.
Local wine lovers can head over to the estate's online wine shop (https://shop.ricketybridge.com) and order now for delivery once the ban lifts.
.
Although Paulina's Restaurant is closed at this time, guests can still enjoy this estate's gorgeous accommodation. Guest houses, Rickety Bridge Manor and Basse Provence, are both open and ready to welcome guests for a relaxing stay in the beautiful winelands.
.
For more info on accommodation pricing and availability, please contact Rickety Bridge directly or visit their website. ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ
.
For international shoppers, your international wine purchases can be made through their various suppliers.
.
These include:
- Capreo (in Europe): capreo.com
- RR Elite Wine (in the UK): rrelitewines.co.uk.
- Cape Ardor (in the US): wineshop.cape-ardor.com/rickety-bridge-c471.aspx
Or WIFI Wines (in North Carolina): wifiwines.com/rickety-bridge-wines

Moving over to Paarl today, we have the gorgeous Glen Carlou. Nestled up on high, this estate offers stunning vistas, excellent wines and a dining experience of note. ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ
.
Although their Visitor Centre is currently closed and you sadly cannot visit the estate in this time, it is worth keeping them in mind for later on.
.
With their restaurant, tasting room and art gallery, this estate offers visitors so much when it is open to the public. So please do keep them front and foremost when they reopen their doors to welcome visitors again. ๐Ÿ™
.
In the meantime, you can support Glen Carlou through this trying time by purchasing some of their two exciting wine pack options.๐Ÿท
.
Up until 31 January, or while stocks last, they will be running an exclusive 20% discount off the final price.
.
Choose between the white wine pack (R597 for 6 whites) and enjoy the following: - 2020 Chardonnay

Nestled in the beautiful Helderberg wine region is lovely Lourensford Estate, adored for its excellent wines, lush gardens, on-site offerings and popular market.
.
During the alcohol ban, you can still order the estate's wines for delivery once the ban lifts.
.
Lourensford is a farm made for social distancing, thanks to its vast garden spaces, lawns and tranquil shaded spots. Guests can visit the estate and explore the gardens.๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐ŸŒผ

No off-site food or drink is allowed so grab a bite to eat from one of the estate's food gems and enjoy them in the gardens for a lovely al fresco dining experience. ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

If you prefer a proper sit-down meal, head to The Millhouse Kitchen or the popular Coffee Roasting Company. โ˜•

There is also Ghenwa's Culinary Club, who specialises in private functions and bookings but also offers picnics and Sunday shwarmasย  on her deck.

Considered one of Cape Town's best-kept secrets (shhh) is the beautiful Klein Roosboom. In recent years, this wine farm has become the go-to destination and brought unique offerings to Durbanville. ๐Ÿคซ
.
During Level 3's alcohol ban, Klein Roosboom is still offering online sales. As per national regulations, wine orders will be delivered when the restrictions lift.
.
From Tuesdays to Sundays, Klein Roosboom's picnic areas, scenic farm trails and deli are open to guests. ๐Ÿ˜Š
.
The veranda area, near the deli, is serviced but most of the other spots on the farm are self-service. Guests are given a buzzer that notifies them when their order is ready. They can simply collect and enjoy.
.
For a more unique dining experiences, there are tables set amid the vineyards where guests can sit and enjoy their deli goods.
.
The picnic areas are dotted about on the lawns, by the deli, and below the cellar, near where the sandpit and kiddies' swings are found. These are ideal for visiting families to utilise. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ

The next Durbanville wine farm is: Bloemendal. Bloemendal is a hugely popular estate, loved for its family-friendly offerings and laid-back farm vibes above all else.
.
Bloemendal is open for wine orders through its website or via email. Delivery will take place as soon as the alcohol ban is lifted.
.
Currently, until 15 February 2021, the estate is running a great 20% wine discount special for those who order 12 or more bottles. As a bonus, delivery within a 10km radius of the estate will be free - otherwise, a small fee will apply.
.
Customers can place wine orders via the website by filling out an order request. Alternatively, they can email Bloemendal at winetasting@bloemendalwines.co.za. (An invoice, with EFT details, will then follow.)
.
The estate is also offering excellent vouchers for their tasting room pairings (the nougat, ice-cream and kiddies' pairing options).
.
Buy pairing vouchers now and enjoy them later once the alcohol restriction passes. ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ
.
These vouchers will also make a special gift for a friend or loved one. Again, they can enjoy redeeming them once the ban passes.
.
On-site, the Bloemendal Trail Park and child-friendly Bon Amis Restaurant are both open to guests.

For this past week, I have used every ounce of my For this past week, I have used every ounce of my free time after-hours to put my latest blog post together. But I really felt I had to, especially after the heartwarming response and gratitude I received from the estates I reached out to.
.
I know that this is a very dangerous time - and the safest place to be, remains at home - but I also know our wine industry is on its knees. ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ˜”
.
So, in my latest blog post (linked in bio), I carefully highlight a variety of different ways you can support wine farms across the Cape. ๐Ÿ‘ (I will also still be highlighting each individual estate daily on Insta.)
.
Whether you wish to support their online shops (with delivery post-ban, of course), enjoy a socially distanced picnic/meal, estate hike/trail or even embark on a virtual tour from the comfort and shelter of your home - there is something on here to suit everyone's comfort level and their budget.๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ
.
But please, if you can, show your support to our wine estates and restaurants; they desperately need it.๐Ÿ™

Disclaimer: This post is in no way sponsored or paid for. Nor is it an exhaustive list of wine estates so please continue to support these and all other Western Cape estates in any way possible. ๐Ÿท
.
From my side, I also wish to extend personal thanks to each estate and their respective staff and PR teams who helped me to compile this post. I am so grateful to you all! I could not have pulled this together half as fast without you.๐Ÿฅ‚

Another beautiful Durbanville Wine Valley estate is the relatively new but very popular Canto Wines. This estate is a lovely boutique wine farm offering, that also doubles as a magical wedding and function venue.
.
Currently, Canto Wines is running some nice, small promotions on their online shop. So you can order now and enjoy the wines later once the ban lifts and wine delivery is permitted!
.
The estate is also selling excellent tasting vouchers for their famous MCC and macaroon pairing.
.
You can purchase these delightful tasting vouchers from the online store and use them in future - or give them as special gifts to friends and loved ones.
.
On-site, guests can still enjoy the deli, which sells delectable cold meat cuts, cheeses and preserves. These can be enjoyed as a picnic meal (weather-permitting) or better still, if you are concerned about being out of your home for too long, you can take them home to enjoy when desired.
.
Current opening hours for the Canto deli are: Monday to Friday, 10:00 am - 17:00 pm. Saturdays from 10:00 am - 16:00 pm. And finally, on Sundays, from 11:00 am - 15:00 pm.
.
Please be advised they may close their doors a half an hour or hour earlier if business is especially quiet. A special thanks to @cantowines for assisting with my research for this post.

The next wine farm in focus is: the scenic Durbanville Hills, a wine farm gem located up on high in the Durbanville Wine Valley.
.
This estate is one that immediately made its beauty and presence felt when I visited it a few years ago for one of their excellent pairing options... the views from this estate are, quite simply put, stunning!
.
During Level 3's alcohol ban, unfortunately customers cannot purchase wine from the estate's website - but please keep them in mind once the ban lifts and show renewed support.
.
Happily though, the estate's beautiful restaurant, Tangram, is running a great 2-for-1 breakfast or main meal special at the moment up until 15 February. (This offer excludes Valentine's Day, 14 February.)

Tangram is a gorgeous restaurant and well worth a visit if you and a friend or partner are comfortable dining out now to enjoy this incredible special.

Their incredible restaurant, Diemersdal Farm Eatery, is also open to guests during Level 3.

The restaurant's current trading hours are as follows: Tuesday to Saturday, between 12:00 pm - 15:00 pm for lunch.

The next Durbanville Winelands gem in focus is the hugely family-friendly Meerendal Wine Estate, one I love for its warm hospitality and lovely outdoor offerings especially.
.
During Level 3's alcohol ban, customers can still purchase wine from Meerendal's online store. As per national regulations, wine orders can only be delivered once the alcohol ban gets lifted.
.
Their farmstall is welcoming guests for tasty breakfasts. Their breakfast menu can be enjoyed from 07:00 am - 16:00 pm, Wednesdays to Sundays. (On rainy days, there is even a sheltered indoor seating area.) ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿฅ“
.
One of the estate's newest attractions, the artisan bakery, is also ready to supply local farms and businesses with their daily bread.ย They offer a selection of farm-style breads, sweet- and savoury-muffins and different treats too. These are all available from the Farmstall for enjoyment.ย ๐Ÿฅ–๐Ÿž๐Ÿฅฏ
.
Meerendal's popular running and MTB trails remain open to the public. They have both day or annual passes to choose from.๐Ÿšด

Carlucci's Restaurant is also there to serve up a great selection of food and drinks in a safe, child-friendly space. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ

Today, my wine farm in focus is:ย Nitida, another pretty gem of a wine estate in the Durbanville Wine Valley.
.
During Level 3's alcohol ban, customers can still purchase wine from Nitida's online shop. As per national regulations, wine orders will only be delivered once the ban lifts.
.
Additionally, this beautiful estate also offers two lovely restaurants in the child-friendly Tables at Nitida and Cassia at Nitida that remain open to visitors.
.
While both restaurants are taking strain under the shortened trading hours, they are still both open during extended Level 3, ready to serve up a range of delicious meals.
.
Cassia Restaurant is currently open from 09:00 - 11:30 for their legendary breakfasts and then from 12:00 - 17:00 for lunch.
.
Tables at Nitida meanwhile is open from 09:00 - 16:00 daily. This restaurant is child-friendly, making it a help for families eating out.
.
Both restaurants at Nitida are lovely and offer stunning settings and tasty food. What's more, there is indoor and outdoor seating to choose from at both eateries.
.
On a personal note, Cassia is one of the few restaurants I have dined at since COVID-19 hit SA shores and when I visited late last year, I felt safe with the COVID-19 regulations and cleaning protocols that they have in place.
.
Special thanks to @nitidawine for assisting with the facts for my post. ๐Ÿ™

.
So the next wine farm I am sharing is: De Grendel, situated in my beloved Durbanville Wine Valley.
.
Since my visit in 2019, De Grendel has been one of my favourite wine farms in the Western Cape for so many reasons.
.
This award-winning estate has been especially inventive about their product offerings and exceptional to its staff during the alcohol bans. ๐Ÿ‘
.
In this latest ban, De Grendel has just launched some exciting new tapas. These tasty gourmet tapas are the brainchild of Chef Ian Bergh and the restaurant team.
.
With a varied menu, the gourmet tapas are available Wednesday to Saturday, 11:00 - 18:00 and on Sundays from 11:00 to 15:00.
.
Tapas can be enjoyed in the Tasting Room, on the lawns or on the Tasting stoep/porch, allowing you to soak up the distant views of Table Mountain that the estate enjoys. ๐Ÿคฉ
.
Pricing is R270 per person for 5 tapas and a mocktail. Booking is essential. Please contact De Grendel directly to book.
.
Additionally, De Grendel is also offering scenic farm tours. See wildlife on the farm and learn more about the estate's rich history and its impressive wines. Bookings are essential, please contact De Grendel directly to book. ๐ŸŒ„
.
De Grendel wines can still be ordered on the online store - for delivery later once the ban lifts.
.
Also, international wine lovers can find a list of international agents/suppliers up on De Grendel's website.
.
These are just some of the ways you can support De Grendel through the ban.

For the first time in weeks, I ventured out the ho For the first time in weeks, I ventured out the house to restore a bit of sanity to my world and found an incredible, safe experience in Jamestown Flower Farm's pick-your-own flower experience. ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ
.
With COVID-19 and the current cases, I am doing everything I can to stay put at home. But sometimes, even with all the fear and sorrow doing the rounds, you just need to get outdoors again. ๐Ÿ˜”
.
Personally, I am especially sceptical and paranoid about most activities in public so I won't do something unless I feel it is safe and responsible (as far as can be in these times).
.
But with a safe, socially distanced flower farm in Stellenbosch, I had my answer. ๐Ÿ‘
.
Newly opened, Jamestown Flower Farm exceeded all my hopeful expectations. The entire experience - from the safety protocols in place to the way everyone visiting diligently kept their masks on to the incredible, warm staff - was amazing. ๐Ÿ˜ท๐Ÿ™
.
Not only did I have a blast picking my own flowers (R60 for a ticket; this includes 20 stems, otherwise it is R3 per stem thereafter) - but it was just what I needed to lift my spirits a bit and get some vitamin D. โ˜€๏ธ Better still, I was barely around anyone else the entire morning as the farm offers enough space for you to hunt for flowers in peace and to a degree, safety.
.
Thank you to @jamestownflowerfarm for this special experience you are safely offering to the public.๐Ÿ’
.
Also, I just finished writing up a photo essay on today's outing. You can find this linked in my bio if you are keen to learn more about this fun, safe pick-your-own offering. โ˜บ๏ธ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿต๏ธ๐ŸŒพ

So, I'm going to start sharing a wine farm each day (where possible) - highlighting how you can support them. ๐Ÿท
.
And if you wish to stay home - then you can still order online for delivery once the alcohol ban lifts. ๐Ÿ‘ (Order for a friend if you are not a wine lover yourself.)
.
First up I am sharing: Groot Constantia, found in the beautiful Constantia Winelands.
.
I first visited this historic estate a few years ago, as part of City Sightseeing's Cape Wine Bus tour.๐ŸšŒ
.
Here are ways to support Groot Constantia (within your personal comfort and safety levels):
.
During extended Level 3, online orders can still be placed for delivery once the ban lifts. Orders qualify for free delivery when you spend R1000 or more.ย ๐Ÿšš In addition to the estate's individual bottles, you can order mixed case(s) of Groot Constantia wine.
.
Choose between the following mixed case options: mixed whites; mixed reds; mixed red blends; mixed red and white case. Visit their website for details:ย grootconstantia.co.zaย
.
Jonkershuis restaurant is open, Monday - Saturday, 08:00 am - 19:00 pm and on Sundays from 08:00 am - 17:00 pm. Reservations can be made at:ย (021) 794 6255 orย info@jhuis.co.za.
.

To make a reservation at Simon's, contact:ย (021) 794 1143 orย info@simons.co.za.
.
Guestsย are welcome to walk about the estate and to apparently visit the museum.

Whether you stay home or go out, please be responsible and vigilant at all times. ๐Ÿ˜ท๐Ÿ™

Wear a mask. Sanitise often. Social distance. And above all, stay home if you feel unwell. ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ
Under Level 3, with so many new cases, strict call Under Level 3, with so many new cases, strict calls to avoid public spaces and public closures to many of our natural spots (like beaches), I haven't really wanted to encourage travel too much because people are losing or fighting for their lives every minute of every day - and that is bigger than all of us. ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ’”
.
At the same time, I realised there might be a need for safe travel that allows people to get out the house, if needed.
.
One that even provides the option for them to do so safely from their car. ๐Ÿš™ Without endangering themselves or others.
.
So, in my latest post (linked in my bio), I have put together some quirky but fun Western Cape roadside attractions to road trip and see across our beautiful province! ๐Ÿ˜‰
.
Although some of the places offer facilities or activities on-site (which may be affected by COVID-19 rules and regulations and opening times) - each place on this list can be enjoyed from your car - you literally don't even have to get out! ๐Ÿš˜
.
So if cabin fever is driving you a little up the wall but you don't want to put yourself or others at risk, check out these safe travel-friendly roadside attractions across the Cape. ๐Ÿ™‚
.
I would also like to extend a special word of thanks to all the Instagrammers who kindly let me use their snaps for places I didn't have photos of. I am so grateful for your contributions. ๐Ÿ™‚ (These have been credited accordingly - otherwise, all other photos not credited in the post are my own.) ๐Ÿ“ธ
.
As ever, please wear a mask in public, sanitise frequently and social distance whenever you step outside your home. ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ
.
And please, please stay home and isolate if you feel unwell in any way. ๐Ÿ˜ท
Question for my followers: So in the past month or Question for my followers: So in the past month or two, as some of you may have seen - I have been trying to share interesting places (restaurants, bakeries, wine farms, accommodation gems) - and giveaways I stumble across in my feed to my Insta stories. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿž๏ธ๐Ÿฅž๐Ÿ”
.
Usually, even if I can't post anything else that day, I try share a few of these. It takes quite a bit of scrolling and checking from my side - but my question for you is: is it actually helpful or is it just spammy? โ˜บ๏ธ
.
I will be honest and admit that yes, I have featured many of the places I reshare (and I love them) - but some are entirely new ones that catch my eye so there is no intended bias. I have started sharing spots across SA and not just the Western Cape so that it is helpful to all. ๐Ÿ˜‰
.
If these Insta story reshares helpful, would you like more info in the re-share (Example: XYZ is running an amazing giveaway!' or 'There is an exciting new bakery in Durbanville doing in-store and home deliveries') so you have more context of what each share is about? ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ๐ŸŒ…
.
Then you can pick and choose which to click through to for more info?
.
And if you are a business, industry professional/supplier, restaurant or accommodation spot, would you like to be tagged when I reshare one of your posts or not? ๐Ÿค”
.
Please comment below or DM to let me know. ๐Ÿ™‚
.
I don't want this exercise to be spammy or irritating to anyone. I am simply trying to help promote places and also provide my followers with inspiration or things they might otherwise not know about or see in their feeds. ๐ŸŒผ
For my first blog post of 2021, I decided to kicks For my first blog post of 2021, I decided to kickstart the new year with a nature feast: my top ten Best Western Cape Day Hikes! Link in my bio for those who are interested. ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿž๏ธ

Right now, the second safest place (after staying home) is probably out in the wilderness, hiking in our beautiful Cape nature, and I think most of us could really use the peace, grounding and all-round healthy exercise that hiking brings.โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿง—

These hikes are ranked according to my personal preference but each bears a fairly accurate difficulty rating - and highlights whether or not it is safe for families to try undertake. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ

Don't expect to just see the trendy, Instagram-worthy hikes on this list - I dug a bit deeper in my hiking pool and I think there are a few hidden gems in this post. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘ฃ
.
As ever, hiking in nature brings its own risks - so I have included my best hiking tips to help you safely prepare for any adventure. Whatever hike you do, always be careful and keep your wits about you. ๐Ÿฅพ

And above all, please be responsible (especially during COVID-19 ๐Ÿ˜ท) and protect our planet by leaving only footprints and taking only memories home with you. ๐ŸŒผ

As 2020 draws to a close, I know there is a lot of As 2020 draws to a close, I know there is a lot of fear, sadness and pain going around. And while it's hard to take stock of a year that has rocked humanity to its core - I still believe in practicing gratitude. Even (or perhaps more so?) in the worst of times. โฃ๏ธ
.
Personally and professionally, I have so much to be grateful for. And even in a year where travel has essentially been the last thing on my mind, I have been blessed in that sense (through my blog) too.
.
Firstly, to the brands and PR reps who collaborated with me in 2020 in any way, whether great or small, thank you for your support and kindness. I look forward to hopefully continuing these type of collabs in the future.๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿฅ‚
.
To the lovely guest bloggers who featured on my blog this year, either as contributors or as interviewees on my Guests' Corner, thank you for finding a place on my blog. I loved connecting with each of you and I am grateful for the new blogging friendships made this year. ๐Ÿค—
.
To my readers and followers, fellow bloggers/influencers, friends and loved ones, thank you for giving me your time, online support and consideration. ๐Ÿ™Œ
.
To my dearest travel partner, Alicia and all others who joined me on any adventure (even just for a meal out), thank you for being there. Thank you for helping me stay meaningfully, tangibly, connected to others in a very isolating year. ๐Ÿ™‚
.
Earlier this year, when I was struggling to cope with the weight of 2020, I started keeping an online gratitude journal.
.
Each day, I jot down things I am grateful for. Some days, the list is short - other days, I nearly run out of space.
.
But the thing that really stands out, even on the worst day, is how 'every day may not be good... but there is some good in every day'. It really is true. ๐ŸŒผ
.
Yes, even in 2020 where things have been broken, sad and filled with constant fears, there has been good. There has been love. There has been hope. There has been life.
.
2021 may be just as challenging - but as we close the door on 2020, I am grateful for so many things, none more than the love, support and kindness I have received from all of you. ๐ŸŒ„
.
Thank you for being part of my blogging journey in 2020.โ˜บ๏ธ
In light of the President's address last night, So In light of the President's address last night, South Africa is back under Level 3 restrictions, as our healthcare systems are struggling in this second wave of COVID-19.
.
What does this mean?
To list a few regulations, it means:
.
Wearing a mask in public is compulsory by law for each individual. ๐Ÿ˜ท (And don't forget to social distance and sanitise frequently.)
.
On-site alcohol consumption - including at restaurants and wine farms - is not permitted, nor is alcohol consumption allowed in any public space, such as parks.
.
The curfew has been pushed forward and now runs from 21:00 pm at night to 06:00 am in the morning. In light of this, establishments, such as restaurants and shops, must close by 20:00 pm.
.
Extra restrictions also apply to hotspots, which now include the following Western Cape districts: Cape Town, the Garden Route District, West Coast District, Overberg District, Cape Winelands District and the Central Karoo District.
.
All beaches, dams, lakes, rivers and public parks and public swimming pools in hotspot areas are also closed to the public for the time being.
.
For full rules and regulations, please refer to the official provincial/national government online resources or news sites that are also re-publishing these lists.
.
Please take ownership for your own actions and protect yourself and those around you by only travelling carefully if and when you need to.
.
Like before, staying home to stay safe is still the best way to keep yourself healthy and out of harm's way but I understand that we may still need to travel during this festive season.
.
And if you do travel (or even if you choose not to), you can still find many ways to support local businesses, wine farms, restaurants and shops by visiting them to purchase goods, enjoy safe outdoor activities or order meals.
.
Whatever you decide to do under Level 3, the onus remains on each individual - now more than ever - to be responsible and careful.
.
Your actions don't just affect you during COVID-19 - and sadly, that is something we all need to keep front and centre of our minds and hearts as we wind down 2020 and head towards a new year.
