Our little family’s West Coast trip continued and this time, we were off to the beautiful, historical grand old dame, The Farmhouse Hotel.
Tucked further away from the town’s centre, this lovely family- and pet-friendly hotel offered us a quiet glimpse into the peaceful suburbs and life near the yacht club.
With stunning views of the expansive lagoon, with distant lighthouse beacons interrupting the nighttime sky and the most beautiful sunsets we’ve seen in months, this was the perfect home base from which to further our West Coast adventure. Happily with our granny cat, Lucy, and our young baby in tow.
For our most recent visit, we were fortunate enough to enjoy a wonderfully peaceful, lovely stay at The Farmhouse Hotel in beautiful Langebaan.
This review focuses on this historical, yet chic accommodation offering, as I showcase its family- and pet-friendly atmosphere, quality amenities, beautiful in-house restaurant and services.
Where We Stayed:
We enjoyed a relaxing two-night stay in one of the hotel’s Panoramic Lagoon View Hot Tub Rooms. True to the name, our room did indeed offer glorious views of the lagoon, as well as the rolling lawns and pool area, which were sorely tempting even in wintertime.
Our ground floor room was both pet- and baby-friendly and came with beds provided for both our ‘babies’. 🙂
Additionally, we were fortunate to have our own gorgeous private hot tub outside our room. Again, it offered great views of the lagoon, especially at sunset or sunrise.
In-room Amenities:
Our in-room amenities included a comfortable, spacious bed, a bar fridge, a safe, a smart TV, Wi-Fi, fireplace, aircon, tea and coffee station (well-stocked with extra drinking glasses), day bed and a desk.
Our en-suite bathroom offered both a bath (which mama certainly utilised on those cold winter nights) and shower, along with a toilet and basin.
Beyond that, we also had an incredibly scenic, lovely sheltered hot tub that generously overlooks the lagoon, rolling lawn and nearby pool area, which our room was handily only a stone’s throw from.
As I was sick with the flu and it was raining cats and dogs for much of our stay here, we unfortunately didn’t utilise the hot tub or pool but if we stay at The Farmhouse Hotel again in warmer weather, I will certainly use both.
The team was also thoughtful enough to provide a camp cot for our baby.
We found our room and stay entirely pleasant. Our little one loved his time at The Farmhouse Hotel and made friends with the hotel and restaurant staff, who were exceptionally sweet and sympathetic to us as new parents.
Our cat, Lucy, took some time to adjust to her surroundings but also seemed suitably comfy here and I love that we were able to bring her along to such a quietly luxurious hotel.
Restaurant, Bar or Pub On-site?
Yes, The Farmhouse Hotel offers both a restaurant and bar in La Petite Maison, a beautiful French-style fine dining establishment with a distinctive West Coast twist, and Legends Bar, which offers a more casual, laid-back approach.
La Petite Maison offers the most spectacular views of the lagoon, while also showcasing truly lovely beach-chic, elegant decor. This in-house restaurant, which is also open to the public, specialises in breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Our stay at The Farmhouse Hotel included breakfast, which was a true highlight each day.
Also included in our stay were tea and scones every afternoon, a time-antiquated legacy that has been tastefully kept alive today.
Legends in the Making
Legends Bar, meanwhile, specialises in casual drinks, including some good quality beers and wines. While you savour your drink, you can choose to sit near one of the cosy indoor spaces or sit on the lagoon-facing stoep.
Nearby highlights include the games room, which features everything from board games to a pool table and some historic pieces.
Or even the Celebration room, which offers stunning views and also doubles as a tasteful venue for hosting intimate affairs, like birthdays or family get-togethers.
During summertime, the hotel’s pool is also available to guests. Pool loungers and lilos are available for use here.
Dining at La Petite Maison
For guests and the general public, dining at La Petite Maison, run by husband and wife team, Yohnn and LaRetha, is a truly special experience.
This restaurant is quickly asserting itself as a West Coast favourite though, so reservations are advised. (A deposit of R250 is charged per guest to secure your reservation.)
The food here includes French finery, with a West Coast element, such as lamb shanks, freshly caught fish, local seafood and more.
Our breakfasts here were absolutely divine and certainly a highlight of our Farmhouse stay.
What’s more, service and food at the restaurant were of an outstanding standard and the setting is second to none.
With our little one, we had to skip dinner but we were kindly given room service for some ‘Cake of the Day’ and it was sublime!
Please note: While the restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Monday lunch and dinner time is reserved for hotel guests.

On-site Spa?
The Farmhouse Hotel has its own on-site spa called the Salon. This new wellness offering caters to body ceremonies, massages, facials, as well as feet- and hand-treatments.
Treatments and spa access are not included in your stay and must be booked and paid for separately.
The same applies to the hotel’s laundry service, which we utilised and found to be efficient and excellent.
Family-friendly?
The Farmhouse Hotel is very much a family-friendly establishment, with the rooms, games room and outdoor playground all giving a nod to family stays.
The hotel’s dedicated family rooms offer day beds (available for children up to 14 years). Or you can request camp cots for younger children, as needed.
During our time here, we saw kids of all ages and felt that both the hotel and restaurant’s breakfast time cater well to children.
Our own baby was made a fuss of, especially by the friendly restaurant team, and had a blast staying here.

During our stay, we stayed in one of the Panoramic Lagoon View Hot Tub Rooms with both our baby and our granny cat, Lucy.
Lucy was warmly welcomed and the hotel staff were kind enough to even leave a quality pet bed and toy in our room for her.
In addition to the other furry friends we saw during our time at the hotel, we also made friends with the hotel’s resident kitty, Nyala, who lives on-site.

Budget-friendly?
The Farmhouse Hotel is relatively budget-friendly, although La Petite Maison is a bit more high-end dining.
Still, both the hotel and restaurant are worth the small splurge.
Outdoor Facilities:
Every corner of the Farmhouse Hotel is blessed with great views of either the lagoon or the neat lawn area.
Yes, the hotel has a beautiful pool area – and selected rooms have their own private hot tub. There is also lovely playground and stoep (verandah) seating available for use during fair weather.
The hotel also offers secure, off-road parking and it is a close walk to nearby attractions like the yacht club.
For guests who own boats, the boatyard next to the hotel offers secure, complimentary space to park your boat. It is walled and the main gate is locked at night.
Event, Wedding or Conference Facilities:
Yes, the hotel has a Celebration room, which offers a relaxed space for intimate gatherings, such as birthdays or family meet-ups.
Additionally, the views from this room are truly lovely, as you overlook the hotel’s exterior courtyard and distantly, the lagoon.
Location, Location:
The Farmhouse Hotel is well-situated in Langebaan and serves as a perfect place from which to explore Langebaan and surrounds.
There are plenty of nearby attractions, including Shark Bay, the West Coast National Park, beaches, the yacht club and more, as well as Langebaan’s own Club Mykonos, cafes, restaurants, boutique stores and mall.

This beautiful hotel is suitable for families with kids, solo travellers, couples seeking a romantic getaway, business travellers and pet parents with pre-approved fur babies.
