When you travel as much as I do (and have done over the course of my life), there are always places, people and towns that stand out to you. That retain a special place in your travel-loving heart. For me, the Cape West Coast is one such place.
I love everything about it. From its pristine, almost unchecked beauty to the wild flora and fauna, the annual wild flower season and picture-perfect beaches and of course, the beautiful West Coast National Park. And yes, you guessed it: the charming coastal towns, which dot the expansive coastline like little pockets of sunshine, even on the stormiest winter’s day.
So it should come as no surprise that this special part of South Africa is one of my favourite places to return to. Because it’s left its mark on my soul, restoring it time after time.
This was true once more when, for the first time as new, sleep-deprived parents, we returned to the West Coast with our baby and granny cat, Lucy, in tow. Ready for our next great adventure, as we sought to see the West Coast with eyes anew, filled with childlike wonder.
For our most recent visit, we were fortunate enough to enjoy a thoroughly revitalising, dreamy coastal stay at Windtown Lagoon Hotel, situated in central Langebaan.
This review focuses on this modern, yet warm accommodation offering, as I showcase its family- and pet-friendly vibe, quality amenities, comfortable, tastefully decorated rooms and above all, welcoming, warm hospitality and professionalism, which makes Windtown Lagoon Hotel a joy to experience from start to finish.

Where We Stayed:
We enjoyed a wonderful two-night stay in two, well-appointed and helpfully interconnected rooms at Windtown. This made sharing with a cat and baby considerably easier, especially during our night shifts.
Our ground floor rooms both overlooked the beautiful outdoor courtyard and pool area and were especially magical at early morning or sunset with the golden rays tranquilly glistening outside our sliding doors.
In-room Amenities:
Aside from two spacious beds that were wonderfully comfortable, each room came with an en-suite bathroom, complete with a rainfall shower (which offered a glimpse of the sky outside), toilet and basin, TV station, bar fridge (with freezer), safe, tea and coffee station and more.
Another added extra was the team were thoughtful enough to provide a camp cot and small blanket for baby.
Restaurant, Bar or Pub On-site?
Yes, Windtown has a highly rated, long-standing restaurant called Breeze Restaurant on-site. Breeze specialises in tasty breakfasts, lunches and dinners.
They also have epic specials and events, like their Curry or Roast Nights. We were able to try the Curry Night during our stay and it was incredible.
As someone who originally hails from Durban, I take curry very seriously and Breeze impressed me thoroughly with their curry buffet options.
During our stay, we dined at the restaurant for breakfast but we also enjoyed excellent, helpful room service from them. This made suppertime, well, a breeze (excuse the pun).
Dining at Breeze
There is cosy indoor seating, alongside a roaring fire in wintertime, and a gorgeous rooftop terrace available here.
The restaurant itself is airy and light, with tasteful, elegant decor and a beautiful all-glass front that overlooks the street beyond.
Members of the public are also welcome to dine at Breeze, so you don’t need to stay at Windtown to experience their solid cuisine, good service and beautiful restaurant space.
Overall, we found the restaurant staff to be truly professional, kind and lovely. Our service was faultless and our food and drinks, including the welcome drinks we ordered upon check-in, were so good.
On-site Spa?
Yes, Windtown has an excellent spa facility, which offers everything from sauna treatments to massages, facials, manicures and pedicures and so much more. I wish I had been able to try the spa – we’ll definitely have to return for that.
Windtown also provides their own in-house toiletry range, which you can use during your stay. And because the spa also handily sells this custom toiletry line, when you check out, you can take their incredible Kalahari products with you.
Windtown also offers yoga classes, kite surfing, wing foiling, bicycle rentals, stand-up paddle boarding and more from their activity centre, further emphasising how Windtown isn’t merely a hotel, it’s a way of life.

Family-friendly?
Yes, Windtown is an exceptionally family-friendly hotel. They go out of their way to make families with kids feel welcome.
Our then-five-month-old baby was fussed over endlessly and we encountered such kindness and understanding from Vicki and the team during our stay.
The hotel has camp cots and high chairs available for littles and Breeze Restaurant offers an assortment of books and board games to entertain older kids.
Another thing I love about Windtown is the hotel is hugely eco-friendly and has lots of sustainable practices in place to leave a gentler footprint behind.
Pet-friendly?

Upon pre-approval, yes, Windtown is pet-friendly.
Our granny cat, Lucy, was welcomed with warm arms and thoroughly enjoyed her stay. So much so, that I think she was as sad as we were to leave.

Budget-friendly?
Yes, Windtown is budget-friendly, though it is a modern, high quality establishment.
What’s more, Breeze Restaurant is also affordably priced and offers truly gourmet, top-of-the-range meals for sit-down or takeaway orders.
Outdoor Facilities:
There is a beautiful pool and courtyard area, which the rooms overlook. Here, you can lounge about on the bean bags or while away the hours in their gently solar-heated pool.
At night, the outdoor courtyard is a sight to see, lit up most beautifully with fairy lights and mesmerising blue lighting.
While not on-site, there are nearby cafes, boutique stores and Langebaan’s main beach only a stone’s throw away from the hotel.
These can be accessed by exiting the hotel and taking a short walk or drive, if preferred.
Another bonus is on-site, secure, underground parking that gives added peace of mind.
Event, Wedding or Conference Facilities:
Yes, Windtown caters to all of the above. They can host everything from intimate, tasteful weddings and retreats to serious corporate conferences, team buildings and more.
Location, Location:
It is perfectly located in town, offering a central home base from which to explore Langebaan and the greater West Coast.
During our stay, we even enjoyed a peaceful, short walk to the main beach at sunset; it was beautiful.

Hosted or Fully Paying:
I was hosted for this experience, though all opinions and views remain entirely my own.
We were also invited to enjoy a complimentary spa treatment during our two-night stay but we unfortunately did not find the time and, as I was breastfeeding, I was unsure what treatments were safe for me to enjoy.
We paid for our dinner meals though. These were ordered to our room as room service during our stay. Breakfast was included in our stay.
How It Rated:
Overall, I cannot fault anything about our experience with Windtown and their service. From the moment we arrived till our last few moments at check-out, we were made to feel so welcome and looked after by Vicki and her capable, friendly team.
Everyone went the extra mile to help us with baby, made us feel truly welcome and ensured our accommodation, food and drinks were top class.
I was thoroughly impressed by Windtown as a whole and would rate them an easy 8.5/10 overall.
