I took a solo roadtrip out to Babylonstoren today I took a solo roadtrip out to Babylonstoren today because it seems like they have every pumpkin in South Africa on the farm and I had to get my pumpkin patch fix. πŸ˜‚πŸš—
.
And my, what a gorgeous, vibrant autumnal display! Aside from seeing countless pumpkins of every shape, size, type and colour, I really loved exploring the Puff Adder tunnel. It is a great attraction and masterful structure with a living tree growing in the middle!
.
Babylonstoren has such natural wonders to offer its visitors. Two hours and 6000+ steps later and I still haven't explored every inch of this unique, highly popular wine estate and working farm. 😌 But it was so great to get out, explore safely (it was very busy but I still had moments entirely by myself in the vast labyrinth of garden sections) and see farm animals again.
.
The pumpkins are going to form part of some exciting workshops soon so check out the estate's website or contact them for more details. I believe the activities will be great fun for children and adults. ☺️
.
I took so many photos today and I can't wait to share them in the coming days but first, I must thank the staff @babylonstoren and the kind soul who found my lens cap. Thank you for your kindness and helpfulness to ensure I left the farm with my precious cap in tow. I am so grateful! πŸ™‚πŸ™Œ
.
What a glorious day at this beautiful, bountiful farm! If you haven't been before - you need to visit this place. It is paradise on earth. 😍
I have been a bit quiet on here lately because lif I have been a bit quiet on here lately because life has been busy - but I am pleased to announce my latest blog post is live and I am excited to share this one. Link in bio. 😌
.
Globally, we have so many incredible wine regions and wine farms within them that offer amazing experiences. This is certainly true of South Africa's Cape Winelands.🍾
.
Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to have enjoyed some exceptional wine farm experiences - and in this post, myself and two guest writers share their thoughts on our best wine farm experiences.😏🍷
.
Think everything from unique, delicious wine pairings to Russian high tea, game drives, wine blending, wine farm markets and even picnics in dreamy, private pods.πŸ™ŒπŸ€«
.
Special thanks to @nikkidiscovers and @groenbokkie for sharing their wonderful experiences and photos in my post. πŸ™‚πŸ₯‚
I have another exciting blog post in the works (wi I have another exciting blog post in the works (wine lovers and travellers, watch this space...) - but in the meantime, I have some great content to fuel the last of your summer inspiration. πŸ™Œ
.
The warmth of summer might slowly be slipping by - but there is still so much to be enjoyed. Autumn is actually one of my favourite times of year in the Cape because you often get warm days (without being too hot or too cool), beautiful sunsets and the crisp vibrancy of slowly changing leaves and autumn colours, even in the vineyards. 😌🍁
.
Check out my summer posts on best hiking trails, beaches, roadside attractions - and even a little flower picking! πŸŒΌπŸ˜‰ All linked under my bio. πŸŒ…πŸ§—
.
Now that we are under Level 1 restrictions in South Africa, please continue to support local travel, businesses and hospitality as much as possible. In the same vein, please don't let your guard down... 😯
.
Let's continue to be careful and responsible and keep each other safe.
.
Wear a mask. Sanitise often. Social distance. Stay home if you feel unwell. 😷
To all the SA businesses, estates and restaurants, To all the SA businesses, estates and restaurants, bars and cafes who follow me on Insta - as some of you may have seen lately, I have been trying to share daily news in my Insta stories to help support and promote our local tourism, food and wine and hospitality industries, particularly during COVID-19. πŸ’”
.
Even if only a few of my followers preview those stories each day, that is still making your post's reach felt in a different way and opening new places, activities and businesses up to my followers at the same time. πŸ˜„
.
Some local businesses have recently started tagging me in their posts or DMing their Insta post links to me.
.
And I want you to know, if it feels in line with my blog's content (food, travel, accommodation, home bakeries, industry news, wedding service providers or even lovely competitions/giveaways and specials) and can help you in some small way - I am more than happy to reshare it to my stories. πŸ™‚
.
I slightly prefer DMing me the post link (that you have shared on your feed) because the alert stands out more when I login/am online - but if tagging is easier, that's fine too.
.
There is obviously a limit to how much I can share to my stories each day. Because I don't want it to become spammy or overwhelming to my followers but I am always happy to promote our local industries and businesses. πŸ™Œ
.
I always try switch the reshares up so it isn't always the same places getting promoted - but I do give precedence to those I have worked with or visited - or posts that really catch my eye on my own feed, interest me or feel like a naturally good match for my blog and brand. πŸ™‚
.
Also, some days, I honestly might not share everything - or anything at all because the blog is always a part-time venture and there are times where it (and social media too), ranks lower on my priority list. Work and my other personal commitments always have to come first. πŸ˜‰
.
But I personally have found so many incredible giveaways, local businesses and offerings through other people's stories... so if it can do the same for my followers, then great!
.
The end-goal for me is to always try support local, anywhere in SA, through my blog and my social feeds. 🌼
Summer might nearly be over but our love for the b Summer might nearly be over but our love for the beach is a year-round addiction in Cape Town (even if the waters are normally too icy to swim).πŸ–οΈ

I included some of the most popular, world-famous ones, like Camps Bay Beach and Boulders, but also threw in a few lesser known gems. πŸ˜‰πŸšπŸ

Today is my last post on the wine farms I worked w Today is my last post on the wine farms I worked with during Level 3's ban.πŸ₯‚ I may share more in the days or weeks to come but I am glad I could individually highlight all the estates featured on my blog post.
.
For the past few weeks, I have shared about 30 wine farms (one post per day for optimal promotion) to Instagram and the response from the wine farms and my followers has been incredible.🍾
.
Thank you to the estates who helped me with my research (and selected media images) - and to all those who made an effort to support or engage with these daily posts. πŸ™‚
.
Some of you have literally liked these posts daily and it means so much to me - and the connected estates. 🍷
.
I hope in the process my friends and followers have learnt about some new wine farms and fun experiences or pairings to enjoy in our beautiful Cape Winelands. Please continue supporting our estates in any way - every bit helps.
.
Our last estate in focus is Zandvliet Wine Estate, which is situated in the outskirts of the famous Robertson Wine Valley, near Ashton.
.
Zandvliet is a historic wine farm synonymous with Shiraz wines. In fact, this estate is famous for being one of the first producers of Shiraz in South Africa.
.
Since 2015, this estate has really grown from strength to strength, particularly with the addition of its stunning tasting room, Kalkveld Lounge, and the revival of its premium, award-winning Shiraz wines, among other exciting wine offerings.🍷
.
Zandvliet is a gorgeous estate that has that quint-essential Cape Dutch grandeur, while also offering a fresh, modern approach to both wine tasting and experiences.
.
Now the ban has lifted, Zandvliet is happy to be able to sell their wines online again without any wait. πŸ˜‰
.
Please visit: zandvliet.co.za to browse their selection of quality wines. Just place your order and they will safely deliver to your door.
.
For those who are keen to visit Zandvliet in person for a tasting, their tasting room is currently open from Wednesday - Saturday, 11am - 3pm.
.
To make a tasting reservation, please email Elaine at zandvliet@vanloveren.co.za.

Another of Elgin's wine farm wonders is the beautiful Oak Valley Estate.

Customers can also order wine online, especially if they prefer to stay home.

.
Day permits cost R50. Annual permit for 2021 is R500.

Another perfect setup for MTB lovers is the Discovery Cafe. Here, Balance Coffee Roastery sells delicious, freshly roasted coffee, drinks and snacks, making it the perfect pitstop. πŸ«β˜•
.
Handily, cyclists can also buy their permits and fill out their indemnity forms here.

There is also an exciting, summer popup in The Melting Pot at The Pool Room. Fronted by talented chef, John van Zyl, this spot offers the very best in flavourful, globally inspired cuisine.

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! πŸ’ž Whether you Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! πŸ’ž Whether you celebrate (or shun) this day - I hope you have a special Sunday with those you love. πŸ™‚
.
To celebrate February, the month of love (and love year-round too, actually), I recently put together a new blog post on 'Special Date Ideas Around the Western Cape'. πŸ₯° It's linked under my bio for those who are interested.
.
While I might not be the biggest Valentine's fan (mainly because I feel love should be shown every day, in a variety of meaningful ways), I am definitely a huge fan of love. πŸ˜ŒπŸ’—
.
Be it romantic love, friendship love or even just the love shared between our family and fur friends. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘§πŸ°πŸˆπŸ©
.
While this post is definitely written with couples in mind, it has some excellent activities for friends and families to enjoy together too. (There is no sign that says 'couples only'. πŸ˜‰)
.
I take date planning extremely seriously so you can rest assured knowing this post offers a mix of my best date experiences and ideas. All tried and tested by yours truly with people I love. πŸ’ƒ
.
My blog post includes everything from savouring local craft beer and wine tram fun in Franschhoek to tucking into incredible picnics and delicious meals and treats across the Mother City and Winelands to ziplining or camping in our gorgeous Cape mountains.
.
Love can be shown in so many ways - so why not check out my post and find a way to share love and special experiences with that important person (or people) in your life?
.
Make lasting memories together. Bond over new experiences or great food and drink. Travel safely to beautiful places. Escape to nature and heal your souls... Whatever makes your heart swell with love, do that. πŸ’˜

Joostenberg Wine Estate is a beautiful, peaceful estate tucked away in Muldersvlei. Arguably the main focal point of this estate are its organic wines and its incredible, country-style restaurant, The Kraal.
.
An exciting new estate offering is their first, unique bubbly, which they started promoting this week! You can sample their new bubbly when you dine at The Kraal, as it is on the winelist. 🍾
.
The bubbly can, of course, also be purchased from the tasting room, which is back open for business now the ban has lifted!
.
If you prefer to stay home, you can still order wines online via their website: joostenberg.co.za.
.
The Kraal Restaurant continues to offer their amazing weekend lunches. They are serving their signature farm lunches on Saturdays and Sundays.
.
Home to glorious weekend lunches, during which time seems to drift by at a kinder pace, The Kraal Restaurant is an important part of Joostenberg and one made for guests to enjoy. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘§
.
Their three-course lunches cost R385 per person and the menu changes weekly to incorporate a fresh, locally sourced ingredient approach. 🍽
.
The Kraal offers a wonderful, airy outdoor space. It is perfect for sheltered, yet socially distanced, al fresco dining.
.
Tables are widely spaced out and guests can also enjoy lovely walks around the garden before or after lunch.🌼
.
Finally, The Kraal will also be hosting two exciting Kraal Garden Art Workshops in February 2021. 🎨
.
The first will be held on Saturday, 20 February 2021, from 9am - 4pm. They are co-hosting this exciting workshop with Cathy Miller, a renowned local artist and teacher. Please contact them for details.

Our next Stellenbosch estate is one I loved in every regard when I visited it a few years ago: Villiera Wines.
.
With their immense pride in and passion for their wines, nature/wildlife conservation and their customers, Villiera is special for so many reasons.
.
Some of the highlights at this estate include their incredible game drives where you can see a wide range of game, including giraffes; their beautiful pairings, special MCC and other quality wines and perhaps almost above all, their sustainable approach to farming, which is both admirable and moving to witness. 🍾
.
You can order wine through their online shop: villierashop.com, especially now the ban has lifted.
.
If you sign up as a wine club member, you will also qualify for an extra 5% discount off the usual Wine Club benefits. This is valid until the end of February 2021. 🍷
.
Also, to help customers in this time, they have delayed their price increase until 1 March 2021.
.
Villiera’s amazing game drives are continuing during Level 3. This is a relatively safe and altogether fun outing to enjoy as you are out on an open vehicle.😷
.
On the game drive, you will learn all about this unique wildlife sanctuary; enjoy seeing a host of beautiful mammals up close – everything from springbok to bush pigs and black wildebeest – all while embarking on a fun, informative game drive in the country.πŸŒ„πŸ¦’

Heading over to my beloved Elgin Valley, we have the beautiful Elgin Vintners. This estate offers a selection of gorgeous, cool climate wines, dreamy garden spaces, luxurious accommodation and a lovely wedding venue to name just a few things that make it a stand out. While I have not, as yet, visited the estate (it's on my to-do list), I have had the pleasure of sampling their wine and it is seriously good.

The estate is selling its wine online, especially now that the ban has lifted so head over to their online shop and stock up on some great wines to enjoy this summer. 🍷

Another of my favourite Stellenbosch estates is Blaauwklippen. This wonderfully family-friendly estate has it all: a popular market, great wines, a lovely eatery and one of the best wedding venues and accommodation.
.
The estate recently reopened its doors to the public in full after a short break for some renovations and harvest 2021 focus. 😌
.
Their tasting room is open once more now that the ban has lifted. You can visit it from Wednesday to Sunday, 10am - 6pm.🍷
.
If you want to grab a tasty breakfast or lunch at the estate, their Farm Shop & Deli has you sorted. The Farm Shop & Deli are open from Wednesday to Sunday, 9am - 5pm.
.
The family-friendly and popular Hamm & Uys Eatery is also the perfect place to grab a special meal with your loved ones and friends. 🍽️
.
Savour the very best in local cuisine from Wednesday to Friday for lunch and dinner - or for lunch only on weekends.πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘§

The estate is also very child-friendly, with an excellent outdoor playground, perfect for little ones to enjoy on Wednesday to Sunday, 9am - 5pm.
.
Their popular market is also looking to reopen soon on Saturday 20 February, so keep an eye on their social feeds for more details on this!
.
Please note: All necessary health and safety protocols are in place. There is even a sanitisation station on the farm. Children must wear masks when playing on the jungle gym - the same applies to parents or guardians watching and looking after them. 😷

This next wine farm is something of a hidden gem in Stellenbosch - Kunjani Wines. As my belated birthday celebration, we headed up b As my belated birthday celebration, we headed up beautiful Helshoogte today to enjoy a lovely, tranquil picnic at Alluvia Boutique Winery in Stellenbosch. 😌
.
Not only is their picnic setting positively beautiful, spaced out on a shaded lawn overlooking the dam, with willows and honking coots for company - but this estate dishes scenery at every turn.
.
Our vegetarian picnic was well-priced and lovely overall (keep an eye out for a post on this experience soon) and we hardly saw or heard another person at the picnic area so it was a wonderfully safe, socially distanced outing. 😷
.
I also liked the look of their restaurant, which has a dreamy deck overlooking the estate and majestic mountains.

Some information may differ now that the estates are free to sell alcohol again. So please contact them directly if you require further info or if anything changes. πŸ™
.
And while I think we all know the safest place to be right now is still home, if you go out - please consider supporting a wine farm.
.
Our next wine farm in focus is another Stellenbosch stunner in Zorgvliet. Although I have only had the pleasure of briefly visiting this estate, it was definitely love at first sight.
.
With its beautiful setting, tranquil grounds and wonderful offerings - everything from classic picnics to memorable weddings - Zorgvliet offers so much as an estate.
.
You can continue supporting Zorgvliet by buying wines online via their website, especially now the ban has lifted. 🍷
.
Both the estate's restaurant and picnic offerings are based outside, with plenty of space for easy social distancing and relaxing. 🍽️
.
Zorgvliet is perfect for a family outing too, especially as they have a great jungle gym, splash pad and sand pit for the little ones.πŸ‘ΆπŸ‘¦πŸ‘§
.
Currently, they are also running a wonderful accommodation special. Pay R800 per person sharing during February 2021 and enjoy a soothing stay at this Stellenbosch estate.
.
Guests who book accommodation in this time will also receive an exciting 15% discount on their picnic baskets.
.
Zorgvliet is also a beautiful wedding venue, making it perfect for prospective brides to do some venue scouting or make enquiries. Please speak to their wedding department for more info. πŸ‘°πŸ€΅
.
For more information on these offerings, please contact Zorgvliet directly or visit their website: zorgvliet.com.
.
A special thanks to @zorgvlietwines for assisting with my research and selected media images for this post.
.
Whether you stay home or go out, please be responsible and vigilant at all times. πŸ˜·πŸ™
.
Wear a mask. Sanitise often. Social distance. And above all, stay home if you feel unwell. 🏘️
